As sun sinks slowly
between two houses,
leafless trees swaying
above the roof ridge
print patterns on colour.

ancient beech standing tall doing nothing done with growing scarcely breathing colours flaming.
So many fallen leaves. And so many more still on the trees, deep green or turning gold.
In Clowes Wood by Earlswood Lakes ° we come to our senses, immersed ° in what we see and hear, ° touch and smell
Days shorten; sun weakens. Photosynthesis
tails off and shuts down. Chlorophyll
molecules split apart for recycling;
its dominant green fades away.
Long hidden colours emerge:
For this is our glorious river!
You can stuff your Thames and your Tiber!
Birmingham … Black Country … Plenty of canals … But even more streams … All flowing into the Tame … All heading for the North Sea …
