Seasons, senses & self: a daily trickle of words
I learn by going where I have to go. – Theodore Roethke
From 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025, I’m aiming to publish a very short piece of writing on readwriteflow.uk each day. Starting where you are and when you like, will you flow along with this? Maybe write a little daily or weekly? Or simply read and reflect (maybe this word-stream will prompt you to sketch, or sing, or touch a tree each morning…)
I want to explore my sense of self through words, through what I touch and taste and hear and see as the seasons turn. And through memory, as I reflect on the seasons of my life past and future. I want to come to terms with my dis/abilities, my profound sense of loss.
And I want a stronger sense of more-than-self. ‘I am because we are’ – through ReadWriteFlow, we can find ways to share our creativity. And ‘we are’ because this living planet, this mutilated biosphere, keeps us alive from breath to breath and from meal to meal. I want to explore the trees and streams of the city where I live, to deepen my sense of connection, of flow.
365 days? Really?? If past experience is anything to go, this flow of words may stagnate, evaporate, spring up again after a brainstorm. I’m used to falling flat on my face: my stamina is low, and I easily get distracted. And I’m tired to the quick of trying to measure up. To succeed.
365 days. I’ll give it a whirl. Limp through. Fail as profoundly and as fruitfully as I can. Will you join me? You can read each day’s word-string here.
